September is National Preparedness Month. How Will You Prepare?
9/3/2018 (Permalink)
Did you know September is National Preparedness Month? How will you prepare if your home or business is hit with a disaster? This month is a constant reminder about the importance of preparedness 24/7, year-round. Disaster can strike at any time, any day, anywhere, and you should be ready to strike back -- with preparedness -- when it does happen.
You never know when Mother Nature will come in with a vengeance or what it will throw your way. You can check the weather all day long on your mobile device, watch it on your television, or tune in to your local radio station. But, a lot of times, you don’t know the extent, the severity of the damage until it’s done. One thing you can do to protect yourself, your family, and your employees is to be prepared at all times. Do you wonder if your business will recover from a disaster? Reference this resource to get more intel.
There are a myriad of disasters you should always be prepared for, including:
Natural Hazards
Natural hazards can be anything from earthquakes to floods to hurricanes to tornadoes to wildfires to H1N1 virus, etc. You hear about these events occurring on a day-to-day basis in various parts of the world. It’s scary to hear and see, especially if these events occur in a city where you have family residing. These type of hazards may be out of your control, but there is one variable you can control: preparation. Invest in yourself and your family by being prepared, at all times, for these natural hazards.
Human-caused Hazards
Human-caused hazards can range from anything such as accidents to acts of violence to acts of terrorism. It’s unfortunate these type of things occur, but it’s the truth of the matter. Although not always preventable, there are minute things you can do to help prevent human-caused hazards, such as being a defensive driver, avoid dangerous surroundings/environments, etc. Again, preparation is key.
Technology-related Hazards
Technology is the way of the future. Technology is a blessing. It helps us in our business, in our homes, in our personal lives, in our professional lives, and more. It has served as a vehicle that has allowed us to connect with people, conduct business all over the world via social networks. It has progressed the world, and it will continue to do so. But, on the other hand, technology can be a curse when a disaster occurs due to failure or malfunction of an operating systems (os), equipment or software. Like with anything else, technology-related hazards can happen at any given moment. Knowing what to do can be the biggest key factor. Being prepared is a good indicator of how much damage -- or how little -- your company or home will experience. How will you be prepared?
