Prepping for the Holidays (Recipe Included!)

11/7/2023 (Permalink)

During the holidays, there are many things to be excited for: spending time with family and friends, honoring traditions (or starting new ones), and preparing food. Review the following safety tips to help make your holiday a safer one. And be sure to make it all the way to the end to get a not-so-secret holiday recipe from local owner Sandy Hastings that you can try this season!

Safe Cooking Practices

Thaw the turkey in the refrigerator, not on the counter, to prevent bacteria growth. Avoid cross-contamination by keeping raw turkey and its juices away from other foods.

Child and Pet Safety

Keep children and pets away from the cooking area to prevent accidents and burns. Secure cords from appliances to prevent tripping hazards. Make sure anything hot or unsafe for pets and children is out of reach or closely monitored.

Travel Safety

Make sure all unnecessary home and kitchen appliances are unplugged before leaving the house and to turn off your water before leaving. This can help prevent fires and water damages.

And remember that SERVPRO of Cape Girardeau & Scott Counties knows that emergencies don't take holidays. Should you need us, we have crews on-call 24/7 even on holidays.

Military Family Month

11/2/2021 (Permalink)

We are often reminded to thank active and veteran service men and women. Sometimes, we overlook their support team. Military families feel the repercussions of their loved one's service every day. Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, and every family member in between honor them by supporting their families while they are off on active duty and training endeavors. Not only do they constantly face the reality that their loved one is risking his/her life, but they are the ones keeping things running at home. They are tracking all the bills, benefits, news, and trying to make a difference in their families' lives while their loved ones are serving.

November is Military Family Month, the time set aside to recognize family at home. An excerpt from the 2020 Presidential proclamation stated, "During National Veterans and Military Families Month, we celebrate the loved ones of our country's men and women in uniform and recognize the sacrifices they have made in support of our Nation's heroes." SERVPRO® is a proud supporter of our active service members and those veterans that have given their all for our country.

Here are ways you can encourage military families and share your appreciation:

  • Create a care package for their spouse at home
  • Adopt a military family for the holidays
  • Visit war memorials with your family
  • Send a simple "Thank You" that will mean so much to them.

"No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks." - James Allen

To all of the military families in our community, SERVPRO of Cape Girardeau & Scott Counties wants to say thank you for the support and encouragement you provide.

SERVPRO is also proud to be an employer to veterans.

Why Community Involvement is a Key Recipe for Your Business

9/27/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Cape Girardeau & Scott Counties supports our local community. We understand why community involvement is a key recipe for your success.

Community involvement is one key recipe for any successful business. And SERVPRO of Cape Girardeau & Scott Counties has certainly been busy with community events for the month of September. And we have some coming up in October as well. If you’re a business owner, we propose one of your goals to be community involvement. Giving back, sponsoring events, and such, are vital for your business’ success.

For the month of September, we sponsored the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce’s First Friday Coffee event. Since September is National Preparedness Month, we discussed the importance of be prepared in general and being prepared if your home or business is hit with water or fire damage. And since this event was all about being prepared and What You “Auto” Know, we did a social media giveaway of a car safety kit in case you have car issues. We love our social media community. It’s always good to be prepared in all facets of life.

We, also, sponsored the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Impact Network (WIN) event. This was such a fun, empowering event. We were honored to be one of the premier sponsors of this life-changing, impactful event. This was a powerful opportunity that afforded women of all backgrounds to unite and to achieve goals, network, make a difference in lives, others' lives, the community and the world. WIN's goal is to connect powerful women with other powerful women, learn something new and feel empowered.

Additionally, we sponsored the Jackson Police Department golf tournament. We had such a great turnout. We’ll be sponsoring the Notre Dame golf tourney October 1st, too. We enjoy these community events. These events afford us the opportunity to network … and have a good time. And we’re always so eager to see if anyone gets the hole-in-one by the water.

If you haven’t done so already, be sure to give our SERVPRO of Cape Girardeau & Scott Counties Facebook page a “like” so you can keep us top of mind, stay in-the-know of our community involvement, be educated and so much more.

SERVPRO of Cape Girardeau & Scott Counties fully supports our local community. We understand the importance of community involvement and why it is key for your business. Get involved in your local community today; it can pay huge dividends. Mix in all the right ingredients, and you have the secret recipe for success for your business. And in the event your community, home or business is hit with a disaster, fire damage or water damage, give us a call at 573-339-1948, because we can make it "Like it never even happened."

Surprise! No donuts in THIS box!

At SERVPRO of Cape Girardeau & Scott Counties, we love our local police department. On April Fools Day. we decided to play a little joke on them. We had a box of "donuts" delivered to them that morning. Well, they were quite surprised to find fruit inside of the donut box instead of the deliciously cliche donuts. We all had a good laugh.
